Cantwell-Collins Dear Colleague Letter Urging Members of Congress to Restore and Increase Wokforce Funds - March 2008
President Bush's FY 2009 budget cuts employment and training funding by $1 billion, including cutting Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding by more than $500 million and nearly eliminating funding for the Employment Services (ES). Senators Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are circulating a Dear Colleague letter seeking to maintain in FY09 current funding levels for WIA and the ES, along with appropriate increases to match rising costs.  While we would ideally like to see significant new federal investment in these programs - both to address years of disinvestment in these programs and in recognition of the critical need for a skilled American workforce - at a minimum we hope Congress will maintain current funding levels. Please urge your Senators to sign this important letter. - March 27, 2008
